Welcome to DesAIgn Challenge
DesAIgn Challenge is a summer workshop for kids that teaches them about behind-the-scenes theory and technology used in AI and Machine Learning, as well as gives them access to Creative Generative AI tools to create projects like movies and presentations compete for prizes.

Our Mission
At DesAIgn Challenge, we are passionate about empowering the next generation with knowledge and skills in AI and Machine Learning. Our workshops provide a creative space for kids to explore the fascinating world of AI and unleash their imagination through innovative projects and competitions.
About the Director: Ishawnia Christopher
Hi, I’m Ishawnia!
When I was in middle school, I had to write every paper the old-fashioned way—digging through stacks of articles to find just the right one for my research on the Great Blizzards of the 1880s. Today, students can get the same information in seconds through a casual, personalized conversation with a friendly AI chatbot.
My college experience was deeply shaped by the rise of generative AI, and I quickly realized this technology was worth sharing with younger students. AI isn’t a mysterious magic box—it’s understandable, buildable, and even shapeable by the people who use it.
Some might think concepts like neural networks or state transitions are too advanced for a 3rd grader. But I believe that just means we need better explanations. With the right tools and encouragement, kids are capable of learning powerful, technical ideas.
As someone with a strong background in both education and engineering—one technical degree under my belt and another on the way—I created DesAIgn to help young students not just use AI, but truly understand it. My goal is to spark curiosity about how AI is built, how it works, and how it affects the world around us.
Education:
- Rice University, 2025 Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Minor in Neuroscience in Engineering.

About the Team
AI Fundamentals
Week 1
During this week, students will delve into the fundamental concepts of AI, including neural networks, deep learning, and ethical considerations. They will also learn about the real-world applications of AI in various industries.
Creative AI Tools
Week 2
In the second week, students will gain hands-on experience with Creative Generative AI tools. They will explore the potential of AI in creative endeavors and use these tools to develop their own projects, such as movies, presentations, and artworks.
